Hori Ngakapa Whanaunga.

The oldest surviving chief of the tribe Ngatiwhanaunga. He fought against the Government in the Waikato war of 1863-64. He was the last to surrender his arms when peace was made with the rebels at the Thames. He has been unflinchingly loyal since then. He is a very honest and reliable man. He was one of those who materially assisted in the opening up of the Hauraki lands for gold mining purposes.

Tamati Waka te Puhi (deceased)

Was one of the survivors of Hongi Ika's attack on the Totara pa at the Thames - where the Uringahu hapu of Ngatimaru of which he was chief was nearly exterminated. He was always loyal to the Government and much respected by all who had dealings with him. His wife, Rangitehau, was the hereditary "ariki" of the Ngatimaru tribe.
