WAHANUI.

A man of rank of the Ngatimaniapoto tribe. He fought against the Crown in the Waikato war, but was not distinguished by any special act of bravery in any action he took in respect. He was more of a diplomatist than a fighting man. He was considered to be reticent and selfish two qualities which do not commend themselves to the Maori people. Of late years he sold a good deal of land to the Government, and was in favour of settlement in the King country.
