Sir,
His Worship the Mayor having reported to last night's meeting of the Auckland City Council that you had most generously offered to place you Collection of Maori Portraits by the famous Artist, Godfrey Lindauer, in the Public Art Gallery on loan; that you had further undertaken to bear the cost of transferring the canvasses to the Art Gallery and to keep them insured while in the Gallery without any expense to the City
Council, and that you would not hold the Council liable for any damage or accident to the Collection or any portion thereof should such unfortunately occur while the same are in the Gallery though of course every care will be taken by the Council to prevent any such mischance occurring, I have the honour by direction of the Auckland City Council to convey to you their very warm thanks for the deposit on loan in the Gallery
of such an unique and attractive Collection, perpetuating so worthily the memory of the old time Maori, his manner, and his customs, and for the very handsome and generous manner in which you have undertaken to bear the expense of removal and insurance, and to relieve the Council of any liability.
