THE LINDAUER COLLECTION.
These pictures were painted during a long series of years by Herr Lindauer, to the order of H.E. Partridge, Esq., who desired to preserve records of primitive Maori customs, and portraits of Chiefs notable in the annals of aboriginal inhabitants of New Zealand. The collection was generously given to the City of Auckland, in May 1915, in consideration of £10,000 subscribed, in response to the appeal of the owner, for the relief of Belgian sufferers by the war.
